Dear Antonio et al.:
Thank you for your kind attempt to save my soul after all the blasphemies I
made. You graceful saved me from walking on my knees to the Vatican to ask
the Pope’s pardon.
If anyone else has good examples to share, please let me know. The first
Advanced Clinical Engineering Workshop in India is [...]

Hi,
I live in another “less prosperous country” called ARGENTINA. I see you
changed the name Developing Countries for Less Prosperous Countries, maybe
as a real thing. Haha. Very funny but real.
From my experience through CE Departments in 20 years, I recommend working
with peers as Dr. Calil explains in private Hospitals. I usually phone or
e-mail my colleagues to [...]
Dear Andre, Calil et al.:
Thanks both for completing the circle and, most importantly, bring us back
to the “cardinal sins” (i.e., the root causes) of our problems. As
discussed before in this venue, the technical, supply chain, and financial
issues are challenges that we can solve (some may take more time than
others) but the root causes are [...]

Binseng,
Thanks for bringing into evidence–once again–the CE “Trinity” (Human Resources, Spare Parts, Documentation) which turns to form a “Four-Musketeer team” with “Budget/Money”.
To form the CE “BIG NINE”, let me add the following: Departments/Units, Workshops, Tools and Instruments, Training, and Procedures/Methods.
The “BIG NINE” model–built from field experiences in developing countries–provides with key factors for effective [...]

From my experience in this “less prosperous country” called Brazil, I can tell you that you can have, the Trinity, the Four Musketeers, the Big NINE, the 5 to 10% deposit and so on.
At our Center, which happens to be one of the best Clinical Engineering Centers in the country, we have the “big eleven” [...]

Dear Jim:
Congratulations! (or should I say condolences?)
Please visit my personal site (http://alum.mit.edu/www/binseng) for my prior
publications under the Bibliography tab. I can only send you material that
is not copyrighted, as I can’t afford to be sued like the lady who used
Kazak. You may want to take appropriate precautions as well unless WHO can
grant [...]

I am working with Dr. Andrei Issakov and Adriana Velazquez Berumen of
WHO as a follow-up of the Advisory Meeting on Health Technology and
Infrastructure. I am responsible for a Maintenance Work Group. A major task
of this work group is to collect and review hospital maintenance documents
with special emphasis on equipment preventive and corrective maintenance.
I [...]

Dear Colleagues:
Sorry to jump on late into this interesting discussion due to travel.
I used to refer to the trio of (1) competent personnel, (2) parts, and (3)
documentation (including software) as the (unholy) “trinity” of clinical
engineering (CE) but constantly remind myself that the fourth Musketeer is
actual “money.”
I agree with most of the comments and suggestions made [...]

Hello:
I know of a case where a private clinic negotiated to include a set of recommended spare parts while purchasing a Somatom CT scan from Siemens. This turned out to be a really good strategy to reduce downtime but it came with an additional cost which is bearable for a profit making organization and might not [...]

This topic of spare parts couldn’t have come at a better time. I have just
come to the conclusion myself that, at least here in Ethiopia, this is a
bigger part of the problem than people recognize. Here the focus is on
capacity building of technical personnel, which is definitely needed.
However, in so many cases, if [...]

Hi Ronald,
here you have added another parameter into teh equation.
The leaking; is now an issue of managing teh stores with respect to
receiving, issuing and inventory control.
but yeah it also adds a big problem to the difficult issue of Stocking spare
parts.
especially when the technicians always have “private jobs” but utilize the
company’s stores as their supplier.

This is a good topic, and I would be interested to read about some more
ideas!
Considering that Ismale is absolutely right that due to missing
standardization the manufacturers will not be interested set up stocks in
smaller countries. Maybe only in countries like Brazil, where also the
turnover due to the big private health care market is very high, [...]
