Re: Medical Equipment donations

Maybe instead of “success stories” we have a “what may have worked”,
less of a cut-and-dried term that will leave readers with the notion
that it isn’t a sure thing?

Medical Equipment donations

There has been an excellent discussion on this topic and I thank Jennifer Barragan for her summary of the discussions to date.
I would like to return to the proposal that I made in my posting of September 29.
I proposed that a new page be created on the INFRATECH web archive on which would be posted [...]

Dear Colleagues,
Does someone among us have a document about „operating procedures”
for endoscopy departments / centres?
Thank you for your feedback

With best regards

Re: Medical Equipment Donations

Klaus, your suggestion is a really good one. But as Yadin David said,
the process would need to be overseen by a reputable group to keep
up the reliability and reputation of the labelling.
If such a process were in place, perhaps we in Canada might
end up being able to donate used equipment more easily – Health [...]

Re: Medical Equipment Donations

Dear Dr.Schonenberger:
I read your suggestion with interest as I saw many medical equipment
donated in incomplete and poor conditions such that the receiver could not
benefit from the technology. At times, whent the donated equipment is in
adequate conditions, but is not supported with instructions and training
or access to replacement parts – again creating frutrated situation.
Therefore, to promote [...]

Equipment Donations

Hello All,
I am totally new to that group and I hope you will excuse my probably
naive suggestion/question. How about creating an international label
for organizations that donate equipment? this label would mean that any
organization that has received the label is complying to the WHO
donation rules and perhaps also to a “code of conduct” that could
include [...]

Relevance and Linkage are important ….what about WHA 60. 29?

Dear All,
This Forum has recently provided rich exchanges and I would like to also participate.
Reiner seems to be from a “different planet” and is asking a very good question of linking HTA to
HTM. I believe the best linkage is the WHO World Health Assembly Resolution
WHA60.29.
In WHA60.29, the [...]

Re: Medical Equipment Donations

Jennifer,
There are two WHO books I have been
involved. The donation guidelines were in a 2000 WHO/EMRO book: Selection
of basic laboratory equipment for laboratories with limited
resources.
The book we are currently working on is: Health Laboratory Facilities in
Emergency and Disaster Situations. This topic of revising the WHO
Donation Guidelines is one we [...]

Re: Medical Equipment Donations

Dear All (and thank you Andre and Ismael for your comments)
My e-mail was a follow-up to Binsengs and attempted
to highlight issues around credibility and impact, and to
help ensure that issues around rigour, plagiarism (there have been cases
where this has bedevilled publication of guidelines) and conflicts-of-inter
est are pre-empted and [...]

Re: Accountability chain and level of decision-making

Reiner,
I though of the term “accountability chain” on my own without knowing if it was already a formal
concept in HTM or in any other field. Perhaps we should/can make it one.

Re: Accountability chain and level of decision-making

Reiner,
You might want to look at the web site for the “Institute for
Clinical Evaluative Sciences” at:
http://www.ices.on.ca/webpage.cfm
This is a large group, with over 150 faculty and staff.
Their workencompasses the assessment of care delivery, patterns of service
utilization health technologies drug therapies and treatment
modalities. They are funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health
(Canada). There are many publications available [...]

Re: Accountability chain and level of decision-making

Dear Binseng,
Thanks for the references in HTM.
I was looking for more specific information on decision-making around Health
Technologies.  I do understand that HTM is based on best practice
in decision-making based on a clinical engineering perspective.
However, I believe that HTM usually does not use very much information on the clinical need for a technology for a [...]

Medical Equipment Donations

I think this has been a great discussion and I just  want to
address some of the comments made thus far.
Enrico (Ronald &  Rob):
I agree that we need new strategies and I will discuss a few later  on.
However, we must be careful to not completely disregard the existence of
these guidelines.  They can certainly end up being [...]
