Question: Could someone provide me with some information / bibliography
with regard to regulations of A/C installations in Operation Theatres
(e.g. positioning of air out- and inlets, etc.). ? RMB
Dear Ronald.
How are you and where are you?
Your question is very interesting, but the late ‘paradigm’ in the matter
is now ambiguous. Already in the past century it was very fashionable to
install laminar flow ceilings in most if not all OT’s. Those ceilings are
very expensive and have an unproven efficency, unless in cases
per-operative infection sensitivity: neursurgery, orthopedic surgery…
I do not know the context you are working now, but I would think twice
before taking this option in a developing country. The very first rule is
discipline, discipline in the OR. I mean it is often better to invest for
better handhygiene, in sterilisation, dirty and clean utilities, OT waste
treatment, etc Literature is abundant. Take care of www information by industrial
companies. A book I can recommend you is:
Operating Department Planning and Design Guide
CSIR building and Construction Technology, PO Box 395 Pretoria, 001 ,
Counsel for Scientific and Industrial Research www.csir.co.za
Boutek Report N=B0: BOU / E2005 Capture Press, Pretoria.
I have in my library a photocopied version only, 120 pages in total. In
case you are in urgent need I could scan the pages related to HVAC and
email them to you.
I do have more material on OT’s. It would be interesting to hear more
about your application.
Warm greetings from Leuven-Louvain, Belgium
Em. Prof. dr. Jan Delrue
