I have some curiosity about the differences between the way medical equipment maintenance is regulated/
controlled in the US and in Europe and would appreciate a brief “education”
on this topic from colleagues either in Europe or here in the US. I
understand that the ISO 9000 quality standards are widely recognized in Europe

Dear James
Some time ago, I organized a book called (Gerenciamento da Manuten de Equipamentos dico-Hospitalares) – Medical Equipment Maintenance Management.
It was written by several biomedical teacher from our University (UNICAMP) that are experts R&D of medical equipment
It is all in Portuguese but with no copyrights since it was paid and distributed by the Ministry of Health.
It may help Spanish [...]

Dear Jim:
Congratulations! (or should I say condolences?)
Please visit my personal site (http://alum.mit.edu/www/binseng) for my prior
publications under the Bibliography tab. I can only send you material that
is not copyrighted, as I can’t afford to be sued like the lady who used
Kazak. You may want to take appropriate precautions as well unless WHO can
grant [...]

I am working with Dr. Andrei Issakov and Adriana Velazquez Berumen of
WHO as a follow-up of the Advisory Meeting on Health Technology and
Infrastructure. I am responsible for a Maintenance Work Group. A major task
of this work group is to collect and review hospital maintenance documents
with special emphasis on equipment preventive and corrective maintenance.
I [...]

Dear All
Wise words from Calil (as always !).
This is such a pervasive issue for under-resourced countries and
regions, impacting on service delivery, patient (and health worker)
safety, quality of care, sustainability of technology interventions,
etc. that it would make sense to have some kind of summit which included
representation from industry, governments, academia, NGO’s, CE/HTM
practitioner organisations, etc. Fair financing is one [...]

Dear Ledina,
You are asking a very complex question and I wish you good luck
finding a simple answer to it. I am not sure there is any that fits more
than a couple of very specific situations but is totally unrealistic when
applied to others.
From your email I infer that in [...]

Dear All,
First of all, I would like to thank
all those people who helped me a lot regarding the standards for the licensing of the private hospitals in Tirana.
One of the biggest problems we have now is the increasing cost of the maintenance of the big equipments. Because we don‘t have yet directives [...]

Dear Aldo / Colleagues
I recall the strategy that Bob Morris adopted when he came into a similar situation. He / his department spent almost a year focusing on gathering data on costs, frequency and severity of breakdowns, and
other indicators/parameters associated with equipment that was being covered by service contracts. He was then able to negotiate much better ‘deals’ [...]

Michael,
I read your article and agree that emphasis should be placed on the more numerous, less complex devices. In many countries where I work, I get many requests for training for super high tech equipment, but when I look around, I see many basic essential devices, which could be easily fixed, that are in [...]

Dear all,
First a small clarification: we are not yet implementing the mentioned
project in Nepal – we are still in tendering process.
In addition and unfortunately the project, according to the ToR, does not
really aim at capacity building at the level we are discussing about, but at
an outsourcing system of maintenance of sophisticated equipment financed
through a special [...]

Dear Michael,
You are right to send that reminder. We need to organize the Forum so that we might be able to conclude a debate, not only with recommendations, but with a sort of Follow-up Committee or Working Group, if need be.
On the issue of implication of HTM professionals in decision making, there will not be [...]

Dear Michael,
I do not know very well how this forum functions….
…but I have seen no contribution about “maintenance strategy” from you recently?
The last question is have retrieved was “how to advocate the inclusion of the technical professionals in the decision process?”
Best regards,
Mr Björn FAHLGREN
