Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

Dear All,
I believe the only moment when you can “require” (based on general procurement regulations) a service manual and the necessary training is just before you buy the equipment. In other words you integrate the delivery of the service manual and training sessions in the requirements for the tender. A second point is to [...]

Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

Dear All,
I am confused: what kind of manuals are we talking about? Is the
discussion about user’s manuals (describing how to use the device) or
service manuals (internal documents disclosing procedures for repair and
factory-maintenance)?
Of course both are important and would be helpful: I just visited
several hospitals in an African country where they were struggling to
get the user’s [...]

Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

This is a very sensitive topics as far as some of the manufacturers and their representatives are concerned.
I was once engaged in discussion with a number of suppliers on the issue of manuals and training.
According to some of them they can only supply manuals for servicing and limited repair works. In some cases, this is not [...]

Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

Andrew,
I think that Binseng, James and Calil have stated very well the real
challenges associated with this idea.
In the meantime, while those issues are sorted out, if at all possible,
there are some manufacturers that make operators and maintenance manuals
available in pdf format on their websites or on CDs that they distribute
liberally at trade shows, etc. These [...]

Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

Andrew
I will try to be as short as I can in my comments but it will not be easy
As I normally said to my students, the academy normally teaches the ideal
world and you have to adapt what you learn to the real world.
With no offence at all, the article you mention is what I call [...]

Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

Dear Andrew:
I found M. Eppley’s article timely and critical. The article focuses on the
exact topic that we at the IFMBE/Clinical Engineering Division (CED) also
felt the need to address. At our annual meeting last May in Greece we
discussed it. The result was recommendation to investigate addition to our
website in the global efforts to improve Health Technology [...]

Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

The Department of Veterans Affairs has had a national library of most manual
for equipment purchased by any VA medical center, but this is not available
outside the system due to copyright agreements with the vendors. The
vendors are very concerned about third-party service people getting the
manuals.

Re: equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

Dear Andrew et al.:
While Michael’s idea is very noble and achievable in principle, I would
suggest consulting a good Intellectual Property (IP) lawyer before trying to
implement it. Many years ago, before the Internet, the possibility of
setting up an international library of medical equipment manuals was
discussed with PAHO and later abandoned due to IP challenges. [...]

equipment manuals – Michael Eppley’s proposal

Dear Colleagues
Did anyone have any thoughts or inspiration flowing from Michael Eppley’s paper at
the IET Appropriate Healthcare Technology meeting last month? This seems like
an idea whose time has come, given the spread of internet access and ease of
website management. I would think that worldwide sharing of data in a number of
areas would be [...]

Re: ON-LINE DEBATE – can/should we do something about it?

Colleagues:
The issues discussed and opinions provided on-line are of extreme important
and can help sustain our determination to overcome barriers. After all, what
option do we have?
Professor Calil and Dr. Khammasi commented well about some of the problems
and the resources to counter them. As pointed out by Dr. Khammasi, planning
based on factual information are required for achieving [...]

RE: Service manuals needed

Billy,
I just got back from vacation today, to find that the manuals had
not been copied because the print shop wouldn’t copy a copyrighted book.
But we found a second set of them, so those have gone out by snail mail
just today. Should be there in ….. What, a month? Hopefully less.

Re: Service manuals needed

We have a service manual (not operator manual) for both the Baxter 6201
and the 6301, none for the 6300 or 6200.
Since these manuals form part of the record of patient care, we will
need to keep a copy for our history files, but we can photocopy them (or
scan them, if we can find a fast, automated [...]
